Vacancy: Project Officer on freedom of expression

UNESCO’s Communication and Information Sector is looking for qualified candidates for a position of Senior Project Officer at the Organization’s Headquarters in Paris. The incumbent will be working on the project, „Promoting an Enabling Environment for Freedom of Expression: Global Action with Special Focus on the Arab Region“, which focuses on promoting development of free, independent and pluralistic media in a global level, as well as in the Arab region and South Sudan. From the announcement: „The position of the Senior Project Officer will serve as a focal point for the project implementation, monitoring and reporting. The incumbent will also be responsible for providing advice to the Director of Division, the Chief of the Section, other colleagues and stakeholders on variety of issues related to freedom of expression globally and, particularly, in the countries covered by the project. Further information about the project, requirements and assignments is available in the Terms of Reference.

The Senior Project Officer will be appointed within the UNESCO contractual framework, entitled “Project Appointment”, and will have the same organizational benefits as regular staff. More information on the recruitment process at UNESCO is available here. The deadline for receipt of applications for this position has been extended to 10 August 2012.

The initial appointment is for one year with possible extension, depending on performance evaluation by the supervisor. The assignment is expected to last 36 months, which is the length of the project.
